Please Note: I've changed the name of the candidate and deleted his actual resume', since he's a good person who was being used by the anti-Left gang. -- Mark Bilk Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2002 04:56:18 -0800 Message-Id: <200201291256.EAA17906@recordist.com> From: "Lyn Gerry" Subject: {FP} Alan Smithee, Problematic front runner for KPFT GM Sender: owner-freepac@recordist.com Alan Smithee, Problematic front runner for KPFT GM Alan Smithee is reported to have received the second most votes in the General Manager selection vote made Jan. 27th by the KPFT LAB. His application letter and resume follow, several points of which merit attention. Under programming, note that he promotes programming by NPR and PRI (National Public Radio and Public Radio International). These two corporate-sponsored outlets signify to many exactly what Pacifica needs to challenge. Under the section on Staff, Smithee calls for a music director who will provide "partial playlists" ostensibly to preserve the "sound of the station" chillingly similar to Garland Ganteršs "Sound of Texas" that has destroyed KPFT. A playlist is a list of songs that a music programmer MUST play. Corporate radio chains have sophisticated computer systems that generate playlists. He also refers to Houston/Galveston as a "market" the term is certainly an industry standard, but foreign to the mission of Pacifica. As Founder, Executive Director/Board Chair of Pride Committee of Houston, he describes the event as "free" as certainly it is, but only with the corporate underwriting of Bud Light, union-busting Wells Fargo, Chase Manhattan Bank, Radisson, Holiday Inn, AstroWorld A Six Flags Theme Park, Continental Airlines, KRBE a top-40 commercial radio station and others. Similar advertisement/underwriting is what makes commercial radio "free." [resume' deleted]
