The comments on this Web page represent only my own opinion. That's
because Dan Jones has already closed down a public KPFT communication
forum and has threatened to sue or otherwise harass many fine people for
talking about what he and his collaborators have been doing. -- Mark S. Bilk

The evidence is the over one hundred messages that can be read below.
The descriptions are my opinion of the message content, but the messages
themselves are reproduced verbatim from their public forums, exactly as
written by their authors. If those who originally posted the messages
claim that their reproduction here is defamatory, then they have defamed
themselves.

The Story So Far [top]
Since January 2002, a handful of people in Houston have posted hundreds of
derogatory propaganda messages on Pacifica mailing lists and chatboards.
These messages contain vicious and unsupported lies about some of the
finest Progressive/Leftist broadcasters in Pacifica, and those who support
them, including many people who were instrumental in freeing the Network
from the anti-Left hijackers. If the smears from this group are believed,
and their recommendations followed, the result would be the abolishing
from Pacifica broadcasting of accurate and uncensored news and analysis.

This was clearly the goal of the Pacifica National Board hijackers, working on
behalf of the wealthy oligarchy that controls the U.S. economy and government,
and uses the latter to control and exploit much of the world. The ability of
Pacifica, alone of all broadcast and print media, to reach tens of millions of
Americans with uncensored information, is a serious impediment to the
oligarchy's goals. It is unreasonable to believe that they would give up their
attempt to squelch Pacifica just because their first move was defeated, mostly
by Carol Spooner's listener lawsuit. (Of course the hijackers have not yet been
entirely dislodged, and many of their programming changes are still in effect at
several of the stations). The oligarchy has trillions of dollars, and it will seek
another way, especially for the station in Texas, the home base for many in the
fascist junta that has seized control of the U.S. government, branded all liberation
movements around the world as terrorists, and declared war on them.

Judging solely by their choice of targets (always leftists) and their technique
(endless repetition of lies with no evidence given), it seems likely that the
Houston smear group is part of a second wave of hijackers working on behalf of
the oligarchy. It comes as no surprise that one of their targets is Carol Spooner.

Propaganda Techniques Used [top]
The group uses several different propaganda techniques, depending on the
nature of the leftists being targeted. National Pacifica programmers and
activists are smeared as wanting to control KPFT from the Pacifica Board
or from Berkeley, abolishing local control. But local leftists are smeared as
being bullies, narrowminded, conspiratorial, etc. Various people are smeared
as antisemitic, mostly based on claims from the propagandists themselves that
they heard remarks that no one else has ever heard these leftists make. Just
coincidentally, these accused programmers have opposed Israel's half century of
ethnic cleansing, torture, and murder of the Palestinians. One very fine academic
programmer, Professor Robert Buzzanco, has already been hounded off the station
this way, with public gloating by the smear perpetrators, even though he was

Major COINTELPRO-type Actions Of The Gang And When They Began [top]

2002-01-29 Free Speech Radio News Kept Away From KPFT And Enron
Free Speech Radio News people want to come to Houston and work with KPFT
on an investigation of Enron. The smear gang attacks Aaron Glantz, producer
of FSRN, and chases them away from KPFT, saying that Enron doesn't need further
investigation, and that FSRN is trying to take over KPFT's news department.
Dan Jones resigns from the KPFT LAB, apparently because the operation had
revealed his motives too clearly and made the LAB uncomfortable. Edwin
Johnston unaccountably attributes Jones' resignation to Bob Buzzanco.

2002-01-29 Non-Leftist Candidate Chosen For KPFT General Manager
The KPFT Local Advisory Board secretly chooses a candidate for KPFT GM
who favors broadcasting of NPR programs. His resume is leaked, and Lyn Gerry
posts it. Edwin Johnston gets very angry about the revelation on Radio4Houston,
and blows his leftist cover.

2002-03-25 Attack On Dennis Bernstein And Flashpoints
Greg Gieselman claims that Dennis Bernstein made antisemitic remarks to him
in a phone call that no one else heard. Nor has anyone ever heard Bernstein
say such a thing, before or since, but the smear gang repeats the accusation.

2002-04-17 Attack On Bob Buzzanco
Greg Gieselman and Stan Merriman broadcast a program of pro-Israel/
anti-Palestinian propaganda, "Jewish Voices", on KPFT. Their phone
moderator cuts off shocked listeners who call in and try to correct the lies
going out over the air. After the show, one of the panelists, Donna DeLaPaz,
head of the local branch of a national organization whose main activity is
spreading pro-Israel propaganda, claims that Professor Bob Buzzanco
made an antisemitic remark to her. Six eyewitnesses testify that Buzzanco
did no such thing. Greg Gieselman says he did, but his story describes

George Barnstone (who was appointed to the Pacifica National Board by the
hijackers as someone who would do their bidding) is asked by a member
of the LAB, whose identity he claims he can't recall, to investigate the
"Buzzanco Incident". Barnstone interviews Gieselman, Merriman, and DeLaPaz,
but only one of the six exculpatory witnesses, telling her she must respond
within a few hours or her testimony would not be included. Gieselman's testimony,
given a couple of weeks after DeLaPaz's, has changed from what he previously wrote,
and now agrees with hers. Gieselman's obvious perjury motivates people to sign an
online petition for his removal from the LAB. Dan Jones insults and threatens the
signers, and Edwin Johnston writes 400 garbage signatures to the petition.

The smear gang continues slandering Bob Buzzanco, even though he was exonerated
by six eyewitnesses, and the LAB does not declare him innocent. Buzzanco resigns
from KPFT. The smear gang gloats and congratulates themselves.

The Evidence: Their Messages [top]
These messages were posted to Pacifica e-mail lists and chat ("Good Light")
boards. The author's name is given first in each description (after the date
and forum). Most of the messages are smears from Jones, Johnston, Gieselman,
Pimental, Merriman, and Cooke (with descriptions shown in this purple color
symbolizing bruises from an attack by fascist thugs), but some messages were
posted by other people in support of those being attacked (with descriptions
shown in this green color symbolizing organic life).
This is only a fraction of the smear messages -- hundreds more were posted.
